The Trace We Leave
Twenty Years of Waste & What It Reveals
The Trace We Leave: Twenty Years of Waste & What It Reveals is Muntasir Mamun’s personal and evidence-based account of two decades of the International Coastal Cleanup® in Bangladesh. Beginning with a small group of volunteers travelling from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar, the book follows an initiative that gradually became a movement, a community and a long-term record of environmental change.
Year after year, volunteers returned to Cox’s Bazar and St. Martin’s Island to collect, count and document coastal waste. Over time, recognizable objects such as bottles, shoes and fishing gear increasingly gave way to wrappers, thin plastic films, foam and fragmented materials. Waste had not simply increased. It had changed in form, value and behaviour.
